I studied Corporate Governance, Corporate Secretaryship and Corporate Administration with Roger and achieved a merit for the first two and await the outcome of the third. The results of studying with Roger speak for themselves - particularly as I had very little day to day experience in some of the topics in the Corporate Secretaryship module.
Not only did I get a good grounding and understanding of the subjects from an extremely knowledgeable teacher, I also found Roger to be very generous to me and fellow students with his time. For example, in addition to the normal weekly lectures, opportunities to attend AGM's, seminars and training courses were provided gratis. Attending these events, together with Roger's weekly lectures, increased my breadth of knowledge and understanding of the role of the Company Secretary/Administrator considerably.
I am very grateful to have received the benefit of Roger's tutelage - despite having to suffer the tired jokes every week (eg the wife who divorced her husband for having flat feet: his feet were found in the wrong flat!)
Roger's classes are excellent, providing thorough coverage of the entire syllabus and useful feedback through regular homework assessments, whilst maintaining a sense of humour - an essential ingredient when studying after hectic days at work.
It would be enough of a reason to attend Roger's lectures to say that he is excellent at getting people through the ICSA exams, not least because his lectures are rooted in real life and, above all, entertaining. But there is much more than that. He is unique amongst my ICSA lecturers in that he seems to provide a lifetime after-sales service of free seminars, networking and informal mentoring. Any practicing company secretary who is not part of that network loses out on a lot.
Roger was my lecturer for Company Secretarial Practice and Administration of Corporate Affairs. His extensive background in business and in private practice enabled him to present clear lectures which got at the heart of the subject matter. His method of engaging and involving students in lectures was amongst the best I have encountered. Thanks to Roger, the exams I took in those subjects became some of the easiest to pass. The only thing to beware of is several jokes which have seen better days.
I would not hesitate to recommend Roger as a lecturer for your ICSA studies.
Roger's lectures are entertaining and enjoyable. Roger sticks to the syllabus, and teaches you only what you need to know, with an emphasis on how to give the examiner what he wants to ensure you get a good pass. Unfortunately his jokes are terrible and he still struggles to appreciate what lovely people lawyers are.
Roger has taken me for three out of four of the professional ICSA courses and has been the key in passing all of them. He has a wonderful method of simplifying and breaking down complex issues to enable one to attain a clear understanding of important issues. Roger's friendly and (sometimes!) humorous approach ensures that classes remain interested after a hard day's work.
Roger Woolley was an enthusiastic and vibrant lecturer who sought to put colour and practical examples into even the dullest parts of the subjects he taught.
Roger Woolley's lectures came alive with humour and helpful illustrations gained from his wide experience in industry and private practice. Since qualifying 9 years ago, I have kept in contact with Roger and have regularly sought his guidance. How's that for after-sales service?
